New World City

‘New World City’ is a character design and world building project exploring an international capital city of the future —a vibrant world cross-section inspired by existing international megacity subcultures. This concept envisions an international creative hub, center of digital innovation, and a global cultural melting pot. It serves as a platform to explore the interplay between diverse cultural backgrounds and identities.

Throughout this project, I investigate the process of effective character creation, spanning from research, to initial concepts, to 3D models. Referencing my catalogue of research, I depict culture and locale through my personal creative lens.

Made in Space

‘Made in Space’ is a short character and costume design project, exploring a full 3D project pipeline, from 2D concept to fully textured/rendered model. Inspired by a NASA article ‘Clothes “Made In Space”’, the theme explores a creative take on zero-gravity fashion.
The priority of this project was to practice Adobe Substance Painter as a texturing tool, to become more comfortable with the interface, and to experiment with materials like glass, latex and different fabrics.

Core+

Core+ is a low-poly customization game inspired by the nostalgia of early 2000s dress-up games, reimagined through a Gen-Z lens. For those who grew up playing ‘Girlsgogames’ and ‘Stardoll,’ this project offers a chance to revisit that colorful makeover era—this time with a more inclusive approach. Unlike many classic dress-up games that lacked diverse representation in skin tones, hair textures, and hijabi-friendly options, Core+ embraces a broader range of customization.
With inner, secondary, and outer layering options, players can mix and match an endless variety of styles and modesty levels. I designed all the visual elements, from concept to modeling, texturing, and UI, ensuring a vast wardrobe filled with niche sub-styles. Collaborating with a coder, I helped bring the game to life in Unity, creating a modern take on a beloved classic.

Final turnaround renders from my NWC project, totalling four human, and five robot characters. Modelling process utilised a mix of Autodesk Maya and Blender. All sculpting work was done using Nomad Sculpt. Texture painting was done in Adobe Substance Painter, and final renders were recorded using Adobe Stager.

Bossman (Ali)

Ali is the first character introduced to the NWC universe, a humble corner shop owner, or as citizens prefer to call him, Bossman.

The customers who walk through Ali’s shop doors reflect the crossroad of cultures and lifestyles found in NWC. Through character design, we witness an intersection of fashion, technology, and tradition, shaping a dynamic mosaic of megacity life.

‘Bossman’ is a British slang term often used to refer to one's local corner shop merchant or chicken shop owner. “Born from immigrant communities, ‘bossman’ seamlessly integrates into urban vernacular, symbolising respect and authority. Rooted in languages like Urdu, Punjabi, and Gujarati, where ‘boss’ conveys endearment and deference, it weaves itself into daily interactions.” (Thrifty Towel, 2024)

Initial cnocept sketches surrounding the term ‘bossman’ in pop cu,ture media. Some illustrations take influence from the 2013 television series ‘The Fried Chicken Shop: Life in a Day’, a series showcasing contemporary London life through the window of a busy chicken shop.

Final character turnaround sketch, and undextured model. He’s outfitted in tweed trousers, a simple shirt, and a cozy knitted sweater vest. The character’s toothy smile conveys a sense of welcome and homeliness.
